The Somali Museum of Minnesota is looking for enthusiastic individuals who can organize and lead the cultural program team at the Museum and communicate with the community, including schools, nonprofits, neighborhood organizations, and other community spaces. Qualified individuals will also have the confidence to manage and build relationships with community partners and professional and organizational skills. The Program Manager oversees the museum programs and works closely with the program team. 

About the Somali Museum of Minnesota:
The Somali Museum of Minnesota is one of the museums in the world devoted to preserving and advancing Somali culture and art. It is the home of Somali creativity in North America. It presents a one-of-a-kind collection of Somali traditional and contemporary art and artifacts and serves as an essential resource for Somali artists in the diaspora. As a unique institution in Minnesota, the Somali Museum uses Somali art as a tool to build community connections: between Somali-American youth and older generations and between Somalis and non-Somalis learning about Somali culture for the first time.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the program goals and deliverables
  • Manage the program team
  • Assist with curation and development of space.
  • Give a tour of the artifacts in the Museum.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing Museum policies by setting up procedures and standards to guide the operation of the office. 
  • Organize, schedule, and run programs with community partners.
  • Coordinate program activities with other staff members.​
  • Contribute to the monthly newsletter. 


Requirements:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong timeliness and accountability; 
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work;
  • Strong presence and leadership in instructional or group settings;
  • Ability to work independently while simultaneously maintaining a team focus;
  • Ability to relate to and work with diverse populations in a variety of settings;
  • Technically proficient with computers and databases;
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends;


Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Familiarity with Somali Culture;
  • Fluent in Somali;
  • Previous museum experience;
  • Experience with marketing campaigns on social media;

Hours: Full timeSalary: $38,000/year
